1:1 Artist Mentoring with client: Hal Mayer
What did you expect to achieve when we first started working together?
I expected to do a couple of test applications and fail due to how competitive AC bids are. I'd hoped to achieve at-least 1 succesful bid within a year of working together. I also expected some valuable business advice after Gareth Woodward vouched for you.
If you could summarise your experience of working with me in one sentence, what would that be?
Informative, no BS and direct creative business roadmapping.
Speaking of the difference made to you and your freelance practice / arts organisation... please rate your experience:
5: Exceptional (made a huge difference to me/us)
How have you brought the above new skills/qualities or beliefs and/or new processes to your work? And how have your skills/efforts improved your work (faster times, less errors, funding success etc)?
Think our relationship means this is still a work in progress. I feel a-lot more confident, but still feel like i need more mentorship to feel confident in the written business side of this industry. The way i've navigated m latest residency has been helped alot by our working relationship. I've felt quite clear headed in navigating the networking/interpersonal side of working with an organisation this time.
What has our work together supported you to start or stop doing? If anything?
To hear from someone successful in bid writing that disguising the truth is often a productive thing to explore in bid writing. Tell AC/ orgs what the want to hear and deliver what you really wanted to do. Also to start taking myself more seriously, in a meaningful/positive way.
What do I do well?
Respond with practical solutions to creative flow. Deliver direct and simple questioning to seemingly complex ideas.
