Co-Director: Propel Dance CIC

The UK’s first wheelchair professional dance company based in the West Midlands is known as Propel Dance. We received £65,000 in Arts Council England funding to R&D and test tour new production ‘The Snow Queen’ in late 2022 and this project took place in March and April 2023 with resounding success, sell-out shows and great audience feedback.

The brainchild of Artistic Director, Helen Mason, who came to me with an initial idea of creating the company; I helped her (and former Co-Director Katie Stevens) to conceive, develop, fundraise for and then start-up this new company. Once we had won the funds, it was time to get going and actually deliver it! I co-led and managed core dance company functions as well as advised on recruitment of core team, strategic communications, production, partnerships, administration and much more.

The show toured to sold out houses in Mansfield, Birmingham & Wolverhampton in April 2023 with thanks to partners Midlands Arts Centre, Inspire Youth Arts, Sense, Cerebral Palsy Midlands and Arena Theatre.

In January 2024, we incorporated as a CIC (community interest company) and are actively developing our work for 2024-25. We also recently welcomed a new Co-Director, Rosie Penny and February 2024, saw soloist Rebecca Fowler represent the company in a charity gala performance at Sadlers Wells.
